It felt good to see some of the old gang again.

6B 2000 had a mini-gathering to visit our old teachers. sadly, only about 12 of the 40 people showed up. so many things have changed, from looks to mannerisms to speech (and voices for the guys). for example, the twins have swapped roles. Daniel's gone from loud to quiet, while Darryl's done the opposite. it's funny, come to think of it. at least i have a new contact.

i'm seeing most of my friends in a whole new light now. they've all grown to be so... so...different, yet similar. i'm not too sure what that means myself.

as for the teachers, some have left, while some have stayed on. some have forgotten me, while most have remembered. what amazes me is that my p1 chinese teacher has stayed on for 10+ years. what amazes me more is that she used to teach at cat high in queen's street (or was it queensway?) and she knows some teachers from that time. amazing. the power of networking is especially prominent(?) in such a small island.

it was also rather surprising to know that some of the sec 1s and 2s came from my primary school. i mean i'd knew that there were bound to be a few, but i didn't expect it to be them.

ah well. it was fun while it lasted. we're planning something after the os though, but i don't know if it'll work out.

When The Stars Go Blue (The Corrs ft. Bono)

Dancin' where the stars go blue,
Dancin' where the evening fell.
Dancin' in your wooden shoes,
In a wedding gown.

Dancin' out on 7th street,
Dancin' through the underground.
Dancin' little marionette,
Are you happy now?

Where do you go when you're lonely?
Where do you go when you're blue?
Where do you go when you're lonely, I'll follow you,
When the stars go blue...blue
When the stars go blue...blue
When the stars go blue...blue
When the stars go blue.

Laughing with your pretty mouth
Laughing with your broken eyes
Laughing with your lover's tongue
In a lullaby

Where do you go when you're lonely?
Where do you go when you're blue?
Where do you go when you're lonely, I'll follow you,
When the stars go blue...blue
When the stars go blue...blue
When the stars...when the stars go blue...blue
When the stars go blue
When the stars go blue...blue..blue (Stars go blue)
When the stars go blue...

Where do you go when you're lonely?
Where do you go when you're blue, yeah
Where do you go when you're lonely?
I'll follow you, I'll follow you, I'll follow you I'll follow you, I'll follow you, yeah
Where do you go, yeah Where do you go, Where do you go
When the stars go blue?

Ordinary (Train)
Whose eyes am I behind?
I don't recognize anything that I see.
Whose skin is this design?
I don't want this to be the way that you see me.
I don't understand anything anymore,
In this world that I'm tired of,
Is taking me right up these walls
That I climb up
To get to your storey
It's anything but ordinary.

And when the world is on its knees with me its fine,
And when I come to the rescue I get nothing but left behind.
Everybody seems to be getting what they need, where's mine?
'Cause you're what I need so very
But I'm anything but ordinary.

Can you save me from this world of mine?
Before I get myself arrested with this expectation.
You are the one look what you've done
What have you done?
This is not some kind of joke,
You're just a kid.
You weren't ready for what you did. (No...)

And when the world is on its knees with me its fine,
And when I come to the rescue I do it for you time after time.
Everybody seems to be getting what they need, where's mine?
'Cause you what I need so very
but im anything but ordinary.

I think im trying to save the world from you.
You've been saving me...too.
We could just stay in and save each other.
Im anything but ordinary (ordinary)
Im anything but ordinary (ordinary)

Ok...this is getting a bit out of hand.

i'm sending a formal REQUEST to both parties to stop the flame war, or at least take it somewhere else. i do not appreciate seeing my tagboard being filled with this junk, and i'm sure this is one of the last things we need at this time. as usual, you're free to carry on, but just bear in mind that all offensive messages will be deleted indiscriminately.

in other news, parents turn into nag-machines. this is a common occurence before prelim season, and it's hell on the ears. speaking of prelim, there's physics practical tomorrow, so don't forget the calculators, straight rulers, not-so-straight rulers, SHARP pencils, pens, and graph titles.

Why are my posts starting with one-liners these days?

damn, did it again. must...stop...or not. seems like a good intro, and a sort of mood-setter for the post. then again, i'm not a lit student, and won't know the full effects(?) of doing so. ah well.

let's see...someone's screaming again. her father's not dead yet (which, incidentally, is a pity), so why KP me? while i'm not the most perfect person in the world (in fact, i'm far from it), i'm *NOT* useless. i hate it when people say that. nobody's useless. plans, tactics, inventions, designs, sources and answers can be useless, but not the people who come up with them.

yes, this is disrespecful, and i can be expecting a lightning bolt any second, but it would have been said sooner or later. might as well make it sooner. no point keeping unhappy things inside the body. it's rather bad for health. besides, that's what a blog's for, isn't it? to drop the facade and bare your soul to anyone who may chance upon it. of course, this doesn't mean telling the whole world all your secrets. just enough to let people gain insight to your character, or so it seems.

the theme for my life this year seems to be "wasted opportunities". not that it wasn't there in the past, but it's more obvious now. how many times have i opened an MSN conversation window, had second thoughts about initiating a chat, only to see that the person went offline while i was considering? or missed SMSes because of phone-negligence? or screwed exams over due to lack of study and idiotic mistakes? or let a spot on the team slip by? or failed to salvage certain situations? and the list goes on and on. in some cases, i've been lucky enough to have a second chance *coughchineseos*, but the luck won't hold forever. i will not spend another year in secondary school. no way, no how. not that i don't like it, just that it wastes 365 full days.

so, after that long, semi-reflective post, here comes the question: what now? sadly, i have this bad, bad problem. it's called li bu cong xin. ie. the mind is willing, but the body is weak. i need willpower. and only drastic mesaures will work. time to get that rope out.

p.s. despite how evil the 2nd paragraph sounds, the person's father DOES deserve to die, for what he did in the past, what he does in the present, and what he will do in the future.

* roars at self really loudly*

I really screwed this one up. for titration, i screwed up in the last step and wrote "7.2" instead of "72" in the calculation. didn't read the question carefully for QA and listed the wrong elements. damn it. but still pretty confident of both design experiments. just that i may have got the colour change for phenolpthalein wrong. optimistically looking a a 36, realistically at a 27.

i'm very disappointed with myself now, which makes me even more angry than before. it's so stupid. not to mention that i let Mr Lee down. i guess i have to score perfect for the theory paper to make up for the results here. time to go bang my head against a wall.

Watching olympic diving now.

i'm honestly amazed by the divers' skill. not that i know much about diving, but just do a little guessing with the commentator's views, audience reactions and the judges' scores, and it's more or less clear. although i don't quite get the scoring system. why remove the best and lousiest scores?

anyway, nothing much for now, so i'll leave off here.

We all need an ego boost sometimes.

just received a very flattering testimonial from someone. it does your heart good to know that you've been there for someone, helped them out in some way or another...you know. in a way, it acts psychologically on you, so that you want to be there for them even more. evil, but in a good way.

it's also nice to know that people are keeping you in their thoughts. like my cousin, Heidi, who found (whether on purpose, by chance, or by divine intervention, we'll never know) this verse: "When Joshua was faced with an impassible barrier, the floodwaters of the Jordan river receded only after the leaders stepped into the rushing current in obedience and faith. Obedience unlocks God's power." maybe i should be more obedient. *hugs Heidi* thanks!!

there's this really important thing i wanted to blog about, but i can't really remember what it is...*5 mins later*...oh right, horoscope. sunday times says i have to reconfirm any appointments so far, and something that someone tells me will make me have new respect for them. i'm thinking of 3 possible people so far, but i'll let it come to me.

damn. now i feel like skipping school tomorrow

Today felt bad at first, but eventualy took a 180 degree turn. towards the end of the day, it felt like nothing could go wrong. my favourite type of day. now it seems life's worth living again.

i don't know why it turned out this way, but it must have been a sign. sign of what? better things coming my way? or that this is just the calm before the storm? hopefully, it's the former and besides, how bad can tomorrow get? no history.

For the first time in my life, i knew first-hand what it meant to have your "throat go dry with fear". even though the examiners were relatively nice, i still found myself pretty tense. don't know why. maybe i should arrange for hypnotism sessions. "at the sound of a bell...you will be the most confident speaker on earth..." i wish.

i think i screwed the picture and convo up. i spoke too fast for my own good. missed some pretty obvious details, although some was because of the examiner. they prompted me about it before i could link my way there. failed to bring new/relevant topic for conversation. partially my fault. but sometimes, they prompted too quickly. all in all, even though the examiners were really nice, i think it'll be a 28, 34 optimistically.

gah. nothing more to say, except that it was nice receiving a proper email again.

Oh my goodness. i'm screwed on so many levels. my entry proof decided to play hide-and-seek with me. BAD TIMING. this is, once again, proof to one of the many Murphy's laws. "anything that can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible time." thanks to Sherman (*hugs*), i avoided the "worst possible time" part. whoopee.

tomorrow's schedule is double maths (oh no), english, history (oh no), chem, and oral. must learn to stop being nervous. and don't suggest "imagine examiners in underwear". i tried that for the prelim 2 oral and was scarred for a long, long time. maybe the best method is substituting the examiners for teachers which we're familiar with. then again, imagining an angry Terence Goh isn't going to boost grades. ah well. have to practice selective imagination.

-thingy of the day: Remember the ICs and other relevant documents tomorrow!!-

Haven't blogged over the weekend. feels odd to see the same post up there so long. so time to change it a little.

i think it's safe to say that the past thursday and friday were the worst 2 days in the year for me. but we all have to move on, don't we? come to think of it, life can throw all the hardships, lessons, educational experiences and whatever at people, but a person with the wrong mindset will just jump off a building. in the end, it's up to each individual to make the best of every single thing and continue.

even though this story's been told to everyone hundreds of times over, the meaning never seems to fully sink in, does it? maybe it's the generation difference. in the past, people had to slog to get a job, because they grew up in relatively poorer environments. but now, people grow up in luxury, not knowing the danger/threats of the working world. unfortunately, i'm one of those sad, sad people. we all need some drastic life-changing experience to break the illusion. and i don't know if even that is enough.

wow. don't know what brought about the sudden reflectiveness. been buying some revision aids, aka. assesment books, for the weaker subjects, which are just about everything except chem. need some recommendations from teachers. ah well. going off to do some work.

Today wasn't as bad as i'd feared, but it was still bad anyway. luckily, the first half of the day sped by, just got 23/50 for elec geog; passed overall. incidentally, Ms. Chan was pmsing. no extra marks. even if she was in a good mood, i don't think she'd have given the marks anyway.

after recess and chem, DM came into class. i decided to retake the damn thing. not that i had much of a choice anyway. paid $21. this is the only exam i have a retry, and i intend to use it, hopefully for the better.

for history class, i got scolded for doing something i absolutely had to do. after finding out you got a C5 for a subject that mattered in you L1R5, would you have the mental state to sit through 15 mins of reading, picture discussion and conversation? besides, it's not like i was the only candidate sitting for the practice, and Terence Goh got to go home 15 mins earlier since he was sick and all. damn it, none of you guys have any idea how much i felt like screaming at that woman at that time. but next week, she'll be screaming at me instead. i *did* screw a history test up after all.

and if there's one thing i hate as much as "i'm disappointed in you", it's wasting time without any physical, emotional, or spiritual benefit. and that's what i did. thought i could have a nice stress reliever at OE, but i guess there wasn't enough room. insufficient time too, which was made worse as more people come in to play. but i really had it when this gangsteristic person came and started shoving people around. damn i felt like pulling a blade on him. only 2 problems though. 1. no blade. 2. didn't want to get convicted. guess i'll have to stay away from there for a while, and looks lke it's back to going halfway across the island to marine parade again. until i can play decently, that is. should have went for the sandy walk at east coast instead. just gave myself unnecessary stress thinking about that incident.

looks like my entries are gaining some length and depth again. ^__^

Thursday, August 12, 2004

Ok...scratch the omega destroyer idea. in fact, let's go for a hyper viper beam. or a proton cannon. maybe a triple team combo. make that a 56-team combo.

today was plain wrong. woke up at 6:50. was nearly late. the general atmosphere felt wrong. than at 11:45 - the time i'll have a hard time forgetting - we went into the auditorium. i think it was the first, maybe second, time that the sec 4's weren't making much noise even without scolding. VP spoke first, followed by Bobby. the rumours were horribly inaccurate; 34% distinction instead of the speculated 10%. then the seperate teachers disseminated the results to their classes.

most unfortunately, i got C5, merit for oral. i'm guessing i really cocked the paper 2 up to get this screwy score. the worst thing is, i was expecting a B3. this was so...unexpected. it just overwhelmed me; just like that. it was far too sudden. everything felt like it was collapsing on itself/themselves. i'll be honest here (however much i'll regret this later...). i wasn't in full control of my emotions. to say it less nicely, i completely broke down. even less nicely, i cried my eyes/heart/whatever out. luckily, DM was there to lend an ear and a place to tide over the negative wave. most people don't (or don't want to) know that he's actually a very nice guy. i guess the way he's forced to behave in front of the school as the DM somewhat undermines this claim.

ever wondered how something familiar can make everything seem less severe and well, more manageable? don't know why, but the first thing i thought about was the trademark blue 0.9 pencil and the soon-to-be-trademarked notebook. they brought such a sense of comfort/reassurance, so much so that it was nearly scary, but welcome nonetheless.

as someone said earlier, it's quite childish to mope about this actually. just put it into perspective. what's a lousy grade compared to a widow who lost her husband and children to war? or a single parent struggling to make ends meet for his/her children? all of a sudden, the C5 seems so insignificant. it's also during these times that you really get to see the compassionate, human side of teachers. Leong was kind enough to stop by the HOD room and just do a check on his student. a really touching gesture from someone who's usually so sadistic.

despite promising myself that no matter what the outcome, i would *not* retake it in december, i'm beginning to have second thoughts. then again, there's only this very slim chance of a distinction, it will most probably be a B3. but even if it *is* a B3, it's still a 2-point improvement. however, there's still some doubts. what if december does worse than june? isn't that a waste of 4 months? maybe so, but it's a gamble we all i have to take. damn. still feeling confused. need to think about this more.

just a tiny side-note. something bad will happen tomorrow as well. if anyone does anything to trigger an explosion, this one will be more violent than ever before. please keep away for a little while.

Very tired. i actually fell asleep with the computer on. slept from 4-6, than 6-8. and there's still this temptation to sleep some more.

i guess the only subject i'm really lagging behind in is history. i'm very close to giving up hope there. maybe i'll do what Danny Tan said and use combined humans. instead. i couldn't care less any more.

let's see...what else do i have to say? nothing, really. just resisting the urge to get coil implants and omega destroyer-ing everything in sight. btw. i failed compre/summary. hopefully essay and oral will help pull it up.

Class gathering was definitely a success. the question is: to what extent was it a success. the answer? 99.recurring 9%. because nothing is prefect. aaanyway, it was pretty fun, got a good load of photos, even though i accidentally deleted some...^__^"""

but it was good nevertheless. finally touched a pool cue for the first time in 6 months, met an old acquaintance (i wouldn't say "friend" yet, even though we met 2 years+ ago), did *not get thrown into the pool, played some cards celebrated teachers' day etc. etc.

yes, my version's really condensed. but i'm tried. btw. i'm getting a condo like that in future. don't care.

AAAH...horribly tired. went to school in the morning for a total of 3 hours. really boring. did nothing useful at all. and as usual, on my way back, bishan exhibited its patriotic spirit again. slightly better than last year, though. now, 8 flags were spotted. ah well.

anyway, went to OE (as planned) and brushed up on MVC a little. still not too good though. lots and lots of room to rise up the ranks. that's why another practice session's scheduled before the class gathering.

arcade games tax you mentally. no joke. you have to think at least 54375433246000 moves ahead of you all while countering your opponent's moves and any assist characters, all while trying to fit an impressive *and* damaging combo in there somewhere. fingers are literally flying on and off the buttons, and the characters move so fast it's a big blur. to add on to the already brain-cell-killing load, it's worse when you have like, say, 2 Sentinels on the screen at the same time. especially when one colour scheme is just 2 shades darker than the other. it's not too easy to keep up, let alone score a win. but i shall prevail. ^__^

it should be fun.

-thingy of the day: There doesn't need to be a reason to explain some of the (legal) things you do. "Because" is a good enough reason.-

Guess 37/50 was just wishful thinking. however, i wasn't too far off. 31/50 total. 18 and 13 for SBQ and SEQ respectively. just because i messed a few linking and conclusion statements, they brought me down one level and took away a few marks. and they did this for about 3-4 questions total, depriving me of the 37, which was actually quite achievable. well, now all i have to pray for is a 30-34 out of 50 for elec geog.

so that's it. almost all results are back, except elec and pure humans. tomorrow's another slack day, and then there's a 5-day weekend. looking forward to it.

Been doing some reflection again. mostly about history. the story, in case you're hearing it for the first time, goes something like this:

1. The wonderfullest, most excellent history teacher in the school taught me in sec 2.
2. She assured us she would continue teaching us if we chose history as out main humans.
3. Placing 100% faith in her words, i did exactly that.
4. And it turns out she either lied or there was a technical screw-up

i guess that pretty much set the mindset for history for the rest of the 2 years. needless to say, i haven't been doing too well. and that's the problem. i know the problem lies with me. mainly due to the fact that i suffer from question-spotting syndrome. the only thing worse than that is i spot inaccurately, leading to a fail in history for 5 terms straight.

i have the interest for the subject, that i'm sure, i know how to structure an answer, but i cannot explain everything in great detail. i *do* study for the various tests/exams, just that it's so...screwed up. maybe i should have thrown history to the winds and focussed on ss/geog. damn. getting back the prelim 2 history papers brought about a sense of familiarity. fail? yes. how much? less than 5 marks. can pass next prelim? 30% chance. it's always the same.

all of a sudden, i need to write.
Lucky me. i happened to pass both maths. not very well, though. both c5's. but it's an improvement from last term's d7 and c6. unfortunately, history's taking a nosedive again. scored a 9 for singapore history, and an 8 for modern world SEQ. so if my SBQ gets 17 (and i'm being really optimistic here), it's 34/75 total. which translates to...45.recurring 3. a slight deprovement from prelim 1.

so now, the only results being held back are english and combined humans. i'm seriously gonna fail english this time round. terence goh didn't seem to be too happy while marking scripts. and elec geog's most probably screwed too. ah well. no point adding unnecessary worry to the already-overflowing Big Bag o' Worries (tm).

tomorrow, we should be getting ss back. hopefully, a 37/50 isn't too far away.

This was unexpected and expected at the same time. in a way, i didn't *really* expect to fail physics. but it happened anyway. section a got a grand total of 13, section b got 21, and section c got 13 as well. for 47/100. factoring in 10% practical, it's 47.5 for the final grade. damn it. this is the first time i've failed physics this year. it feels so...depressing. and i thought i had succeeded in the war against the d7's, except for history and maybe amaths. oh well. hopefully there's an improvement in the l1r5.

the straits times horoscope said that i (and every libra who believes in this stuff) am/is heading for a massive burnout, and tells me/us to kick back a little. and now, my question: HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!? prelim 3's what, just a month away? a month is simply too short. we're like jumping from ship to sinking ship.

anyway, note that the chinese HOD said that the o chinese results aren't coming out tomorrow. it has to be 13 august at earliest. so i think we've been worrying excessively for the past few days/weeks/months. ah well. need to go sleep...horribly tired.

This is the first in a very long string of sundays that i've woken up earlier than 10am. all because of the concert at the esplanade. surprisingly, i made it with half an hour to spare, unlike the previous concerts where i have been nearly late. anyway, i discovered some rather shocking things:
- Kee Yong has a girlfriend/wife(?)
- so does Goh Hock Meng
- Jessica's changed a lot
so for the concert. modern dance's performance was...ummm...unexpected. "esplanade" and "techno music" do *not* belong together. then the choir's part was good, but a little too long. the band was, as usual, the band. they replayed some aesthetique peices with the customary standard. following that, it was the chinese orchestra, which was, quite frankly, boring. maybe i can't appreciate chinese music. after that, it was the finale, which involved various important figures going up on stage and making fools out of themselves. not too different from a typical cat high concert actually, although it was remarkably shorter. ah well. while it wasn't a complete waste of time, the time could have been put to better use.

-thingy of the day: If you can pay your bills, you're a big boy/girl. If you can pay your spouse's/childern's bills, you're a remarkable individual. If you can pay your parents' bills, you're an incredible person.-
