SON OF A BIIIIIIIIIIITCH!!!!!!

pardon me for that little outburst. no, i'm not imitating The Fury. well...yes, but no. know what i mean? anyway, the reason i had the sudden urge to do that is because of chinese. i think my sections B-G are a tiny bit screwed. especially the han zi and fill-in-the-blanks, comprehension, and summary. i guess i could have saved some time and wrote " almost everything". also, i have the feeling that my essay is either out-of-topic, or slightly irrelevant. speaking of essay, i can't believe i forgot to write the question number!! let's scream "loser" or "moron" at the top of our voices for a while. *screams* but luckily, the examiners were nice enough to let us write it in even after the collection. but they did take our index numbers down though...i wonder why. hopefully it's nothing evil like a 5-mark deduction.

oh well. at least it's over. now i have to worry about PW. PITA subject. have to find pictures for OP and do I&R. shouldn't be too hard...i hope.

I hate myself.

ok, maybe "hate" is too strong a word to use. i guess it should be "i dislike myself intensely". why? because of chinese. which, incidentally, is tomorrow. level of preparedness? not that high. my prediction? B4, give or take 2 grades in either direction. *sighs* hopefully it'll be higher than the C5 in sec 4.

anyway, my posts are getting longer. logical conclusion? i can type with the full use of a keyboard again. but my laptop has not been repaired. how is this possible? well, i've received a nice new toshiba laptop. sure it's not the model that i've had my eye on, but as the saying goes, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth." or simply put, be content with the presents you receive. after all, you (or me, in this case) didn't pay a cent for it. besides, it has many handy functions, and i don't see a need to nitpick about something that works well.

oh well. it's getting pretty late. i'd better go and read chinese a bit more. bleeding thing.

As you may know, my keyboard's shot, and that means that there won't be a long post from me until i have access to other facilities. here's something to keep you entertained until then:

Numa Numa Song.
End of the world?
She blocked me!!

-thingy of the day: The "She blocked me" song sounds familiar...anyone can tell me who sang it?-

Even though the holidays are about a week away, i don't feel as relaxed as i ought to be feeling. of course, there are a few things causing this, such as chinese, PW, holiday homework, and trying to qualify for the S-paper. turns out i'm only eligible for chem, and there's still a qualifying test all potential students must take. they say we have to read up on the S-paper stuff (university year 1 syllabus) by ourselves. so sian.

chinese is a pain. really. the school's intensive lessons are what i would term as a waste of time. ok, maybe it's useful to some extent, but this extent is by no means great. can't exactly blame them though. the current syllabus outline is really really vague. they'll change it next year.

personally, i find that we (those born in 1988) were born either too early, or too late. i can't say which it is for sure, but one thing's certain - it's mistimed. maybe it's because i've missed out using the facilities that i've raised money for in my previous schools, or it's because i want to be of legal age for alcohol consumption, but i can't help feeling that.

speaking of alcohol, i think we want most what we can't have. i think by this time next year, i'll be wondering 'what was all that big deal about?' and i'll most probably be looking forward to the next big thing in life, whatever that may be.

oh well. i think i'll take tomorrow off. nothing that big seems to be going on. here's a nice song for anyone who comes here:

[Translation]
No matter what the time
I`m just alone
Destiny forgotten,
Even though I kept going.
Inside of the sudden light I awaken
In the middle of the night

Quietly,
Stand in the exit way,
And, in the pitch-black, take the light

And about the recent promises,
Is it just that I`m so anxious?
A wish that`s wanting to be said, but shall be repressed
I`ll introduce my family,
You`ll surely get along well

No matter what the time
We'll always be together
No matter what the time
Because you`re by my side
The light known as "you" finds me,
In the middle of the night

Enter a noisy street
And put on the mask of destiny.

Thinking too much about the future.
Stopping things that have no meaning.
Today I`ll eat delicious things.
The future is always before us,
Even I don`t know it.

It`s not necessary to go right to the end,
Just keep going.
It`s okay if the scenes
Go on one by one.
The light known as "you"
reflects my scenario

Let`s talk more,
And about the tomorrow that`s before your very eyes.
Turn off the television,
And look only at me.

No matter how well we`re doing,
I don`t believe in us completely.
But at those sort of times,
Because you`re by my side,
The light known as "you" finds me,
In the middle of the night.

Let`s talk more,
And about the tomorrow that`s before your very eyes.
Turn off the television,
And look only at me.

Oh my. can we say "accurate"?

How You Live Your Life
You seem to be straight forward, but you keep a lot inside. You're laid back and chill, but sometimes you care too much about what others think. You tend to have one best friend you hang with, as opposed to many aquaintences. You tend to dream big, but you worry that your dreams aren't attainable.
My laptop has given me the ultimate hint that it's time for an upgrade. you see, the bottom 2 rows of keys, i.e. the "zxcv" and spacebar rows, have died. i'm only able to type this thanks to a nifty application called the on-screen keyboard. believe me, it's no fun unless you're *really* bored. for my next portable computer, i'm inclined to something more touchscreen-y, and with handwriting recognition, say a tablet PC?

promo results are finally confirmed. A B B B B3 B4. for once, my chinese scored higher than my GP. hmmm...miracles do happen. hopefully, this is a good sign for the upcoming exam. btw. think these results justify my request for the new computer?

we've also received the new timetable. latest dismissal time is now 2:30pm, 4 times a week, as opposed to the previous 5:00. sweet relief. also, PW and chinese take up the main bulk of the time spent in school, so there's a large slacking potential during lessons. hopefully i won't be tempted to defocus (too much).

although you may not see it, typing with this bleeding thing is a real pain. for my sanity, i think i'll end this post here. i can't wait for the holidays. really.

-thingy of the day: Still have to finalize the written report and cook up some research.-

Monday, October 17, 2005

Well, this is the day. seems that if i were to give this post a title, it would be "17 on the 17th". yes, today marks the 365th day since i could legally play pool. now while most people (including me) feel that a 17th birthday is merely a space filler between the glorious ages of 16 and 18, there are certain benefits that open up...such as being of legal age to read NC-17 fanfiction. don't get the wrong idea - some of them have great literary value.

today was also one of the most interesting birthdays i've had in a while. the best present this year would definitely have to be my overall promo grades: A for chem, B for physics, econs and maths, and a B3 for chinese. looks i kept to my new year's resolution of a B average. although i'm quite annoyed by chem...getting 76 when the best in level got 94. i'm not even in the top 10 - how bad is that?? anyway, now all that's left is GP, and i have a pretty bad feeling about it. hopefully a B4 is attainable.

2 more weeks of school. damn, it feels good to say that. i don't know whether the 2 weeks takes this week into account, but i sure hope it does. there's chinese in 13+ days' time, as well as our oral presentation close to 3 weeks or a month away. seems so much slacker as compared to the hectic pre-promo mugging season, but once again, expanding the submenus will prove that it's not that far off.

tomorrow is another normal boring schoolday. i would skip it if i could, but i really really want to know my GP result ASAP. oh well. attending or skipping both has its pros and cons. i just want the timetable reshuffling to kick in a bit sooner...hopefully dismissal times will become earlier.

-thingy of the day: I've had enough oysters to last me for the next 2.5-odd years.-

Saturday, October 15, 2005

I'm quite happy now. to be honest, i'm esctatic. it's mainly because my physics grade shocked me. from my expectation of an O or D, it jumped to an A. let's say that again: an A. shocking, isn't it? i went about screaming when i found out. turns out i know how to write constructive/relevant rubbish. there are only 6 As in class, and i'm the 6th. it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that i'm the worst of the best. but still, it's better than being best of the worst.

i have really rough ideas of how i did for the rest of my subjects, and i'm not that upset over it. although i really do find it a waste that my mid-years results are pretty below average, because 20% of those grades are being factored in to calculate the overall final promo grade. if my A is below 76, my overall physics mark falls to a B.

all in all, i can safely say that i'm content with my performance this time round. it could have been better, but i'm more of a slow-advancement person. after all, next year's when it counts. right now, my main concern is whether i can keep all 4 subjects, and whether i can take my desired S-paper(s). right now, i'm only thinking of chem, but my cousin says science students need 2 to be eligible for overseas scholarships and the like. so maybe i could add physics... or econs... or stick to one... or even take none - i still don't know.

can you believe it? a year's almost up. i haven't been following the Gold 90 fm countdown of late, but i think we're down to about 70++ days. as mentioned countless times in my archives, time really flies by. soon, the holidays will come, ad it'll be 2 whole months of training and slacking. then we'll be J2!! oh my goodness. just think: 2T20. it looks kind of symmetrical when expressed as "02T20"...class T-shirt idea, anyone?

i feel in the mood to write something really contemplative, but then, what'll i write for my end-of-year post? if i could, i would forward the time to 31st december and start summing my year up already. but then, there are a few more major events going on and i'll have to talk about them sometime in between now and year-end. it sucks to want to do something but being unable to do it due to constraints of any sort.

Yesterday and today have been pretty fun, considering i'm not really the sportiest person around. we did reasonably well for orienteering, and got first for both dodgeball and touch rugby!! it's magical, that's what it is. 1T20 always manages to pull through.

speaking of pulling through, we'll be getting back results starting with chem MCQ tomorrow. hopefully we can survive it, keep all out 4 subjects, be allowed to take out desired S papers, and move up together as 2T20.

suddenly, i've lost the blogging spirit. i can't exactly remember what i want to say. oh well.

-thingy of the day: I need sleep. Lots of it.-

"I AM THE FEAR! COME INTO MY WEB!!"

sorry, couldn't resist. anyway, my promos are over. sorry, let's try that again

MY PROMOS ARE OVER!!!!!!!!!!

glory hallelujah!! even the fact that i possibly bombed physics can't get me down. let's see. assuming a bare minimum pass, 80% of 45% is 36 marks. add that to mid year, 20% of 50 (rounded down) is 10. overall: 46, scraping an E. oh well. what's done is done.

today's class outing was really great. even though i got there late, we still managed to spend quality time together. and that's always a good thing. we did all sorts of stuff, like bowling, arcade, pool, and a movie. sadly, i missed out on the last 2. nevertheless, it was a memorable experience which i want to repeat really soon.

you know, a thought just occured to me. classmates in the same CCA are supposed to be closer as they spend more time together, right? this isn't always the case though. interesting. i'll blog about it when i think of an adequate answer.

better head off to bed. tomorrow's going to be a long day of post-promo celebration.

-thingy of the day: Why don't I feel tired even at 1+?-

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

Looking at my stack mountain of physics notes now makes me want to cry. maybe it's pre-exam tension, but i feel more unprepared than i normally am. our topics consist of:

Dynamics
Kinematics
Forces
Circular motion
Gravitation
Oscillations
Waves
Superposition
Fluids

9 big topics, and i'm only confident for 3 or 4. maybe i could pull an all-nighter tonight, but i'm afraid that i'll fall asleep in the exam hall. i guess it's time to call in the caffeinated heavy artillery again. i can't afford to fail physics. actually, i can't afford to fail anything, but you get the idea.

on the bright side, at least econs was doable. first time i'm confident of over 20, and to a much lesser extent, over 25. but i think it's a definite pass. made some stupid mistakes in the MCQ though. but what's done is done, can't change that.

i've just had an insight - a relevation, if you will. it says "as soon as i'm financially independent, i'm moving out of this place." i know, weird thought in the midst of physics, but having someone go on and on in your ear does not make for the most conducive studying environment.

oh well. so much for that. time to go back to physics. let's see if i can absorb all these accursed notes by 8:00am tomorrow.

-thingy of the day: Class outing tomorrow!!-

Monday, October 03, 2005

Surprisingly, chem was more difficult than i'd imagined. MCQs were a total blur and so were certain questions in paper 2. some really screwed up definitions were tested, such as those for enthalpy change and relative formula mass. all in all, i think a low A or high B. worst case scenario, low B or high C. nothing below that, i hope. otherwise S-paper chances are almost 0. looks like my target of topping the level is shot.

you know, i forgot that mid-year grades make up 20% of our promo grades. so to get a decent pass in everything, a score of 50 and above is required for all subjects. i think it's quite manageable.

with only econs 1 & 2 and physics left (ignore NE), it's time to shift up a gear. can't afford to slacken up now, especially when the end is so close.

-thingy of the day: We're exactly 2 weeks away!!-

Sunday, October 02, 2005

Over the weekend, i have discovered a few more errors that may lower my expected maths grade to a low 50, reducing my chances of passing quite a bit. this is what happens when you let your relatives try your promo papers. oh well. i'm still (optimistically) predicting a pass, but who knows?

as mentioned before, i'm left with another 3 papers to clear. chem tomorrow, econs on wednesday, and physics and NE on thursday. then there's the open house rehearsal as well. next week looks pretty packed...but at least we get friday off (or do we?).

the other thing i've done is to get my hands on a nice game called X-Men Legends II, which is the sequel to the 2003 or 2004 release X-Men Legends. i'm happy to announce that this game has surpassed its predecessor, in terms of storyline, available characters, and character specifications. but learning new abilities is a bit more difficult, given that there is such a huge increase in their number. luckily, we no longer have to sacrifice 2 skill points to unlock a new ability. there are also many more side-quests and things like secrets are made more obvious, just the way i like them. and get this: you'll have control of Magneto from the start of the game, and be able to use PROFESSOR X as soon as some requirements are met. i can't wait to really get started on it after the promos.

still, right now, i can't waste too much time thinking of that. even though chem is one of my better (ok, best) subjects, i still have to put in the effort to study it thoroughly so that my A is secured and i can take paper 0 next year. i absolutely cannot get complacent. funny; i think i have all my bases covered, but yet, i feel as if i have forgotten to study one important topic. and no, it's not hydrocarbons because it's non-examinable for now. maybe it's the introduction part. or reaction kinetics. or equilibria. better go check.

-thingy of the day: Just a few more days to go.-
